Barry Kenyon to retire from British Embassy

Local news network Pattaya One reports:

The British honorary consul in Pattaya has announced that he will stand down in June 2010 when his current contract expires. The British embassy in Bangkok is expected to advertise the vacancy via its website and in local media over the next few weeks.

Barry Kenyon, who is 68, has been attached to the British embassy since 1997, and became the resort’s first honorary consul on a five year fixed term contract in June 2005. In 2006 he was awarded an MBE for services to the British foreign and commonwealth office.

Honorary consuls are local agents who typically deal with problems such as the arrest of British nationals, deaths, serious hospitalizations and various other categories of distress. Additionally, a consulate was opened in Jomtien in December 2008 to provide a wide variety of notarial services for British nationals in the Pattaya area.

Barry said, “I have certainly had my ups and downs over the years, but it has been a fascinating journey and a great privilege to witness the development of a consular hot spot such as Pattaya. But, after thirteen years, I’m ready to call it a day.” He is the longest serving British officer attached to the consular section of the embassy in Thailand.

Sunee News from SPI

Marina Swimming Pool Opens
Friday 26th February was a red-letter day for Sunee Plaza. The long awaited party has at last arrived! The Swimming Pool is open (WOO HOO!) The afternoon was all quiet before the main event! Only a few curious onlookers to be seen. But when the evening came - it was a different place. The party itself was a great affair! The buffet was delicious with no fewer than TWO barbecued pigs and a large table of extra goodies. The only comment reported back was that people were not sure banana flan went with the savoury salad? But hey! Who cared really! The music was nice if a little loud and it ranged from Elvis and the Beatles to Thai music. We were entertained by fire throwers and dancers and all in all had a good night. The pool will be open 8.30 Sunday morning. It's hours are 8.30 am to 11 pm and costs 50B to use for non-guests at the hotel.

Eric's Birthday at Wunderbar
The 25th saw a grand party at Wunderbar. They put on music and a buffet for their loyal friend, Eric. He certainly celebrated the night in style. The party was good and the music fun. There was a mixture of Thai and Western music, which had the boys dancing and the farang singing along alternately. The party spread up the soi and the mood was positively infectious! A great time was had by all!

NEWS FROM THE PLAZA

Eros Nightclub Bar for sale!
Eros nightclub bar is available for a quick sale. The owners have set a good price and are looking to sell as soon as possible. OPENINGS AND CLOSINGS

Marina Inn Swimming Pool IS NOW OPEN! (see above)

Work has started on one part of Villa Rouge, which has been closed for some time. It has changed hands and is being converted in a beer bar. As soon as I know a name and more details I'll publish them here.

The Balkan Express has closed. having talked to the staff there, we are reasonably sure it is permanent and will not open again. This is a huge shame as it was one of my favourites. However they must do what they feel is right and I wish the owner well in the future. If there is any more new I will let you know.

FORTHCOMING EVENTS

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned

A riddle

At the exact same time, there are two 35-year-old men on opposite sides of the earth.

One is walking a tight rope between two skyscrapers at the 85th floor.

The other is receiving oral sex from an 85-year-old toothless woman.

They are both thinking the exact same thing...

What are they both thinking?

Don't look down

Zen Teachings

1. Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me for the path is narrow. In fact, just piss off and leave me alone.

2. Sex is like air. It's not that important unless you aren't getting any.

3. No one is listening until you fart.

4. Always remember you're unique. Just like everyone else.

5. Never test the depth of the water with both feet.

6. If you think nobody cares whether you're alive or dead, try missing a couple of mortgage payments.

7. Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

8. If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

9. Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

10. If you lend someone £20 and never see that person again, it was probably well worth it.

11. If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.

12. Some days you are the insect; some days you are the wind screen.

13. Don't worry; it only seems kinky the first time.

14. Good judgment comes from bad experience ... and most of that comes from bad judgment.

15. A closed mouth gathers no foot.

16. There are two excellent theories for arguing with women. Neither one works.

17. Generally speaking, you aren't learning much when your lips are moving.

18. Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

19. We are born naked, wet and hungry, and get slapped on our ass ... then things just keep getting worse.

20. Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.

Hotel Bills

Next time you think your hotel bill is too high you might want to consider this...

A husband and wife are travelling by car from Brisbane to Melbourne .

After almost ten hours on the road, they're too tired to continue and they decide to stop for a rest.

They stop at a nice hotel and take a room, but they only plan to sleep for four hours and then get back on the road.

When they check out four hours later, the desk clerk; hands them a bill for $450.00.

The man explodes and demands to know why the charge is so high.

He tells the clerk although it's a nice hotel; the rooms certainly aren't worth $450.00.

When the clerk tells him $450.00 is the standard rate, the man insists on speaking to the Manager.

The Manager appears, listens to the man, and then explains that the hotel has an Olympic-sized pool and a huge conference centre that were available for the husband and wife to use.

'But we didn't use them,' the man complains.

'Well, they are here, and you could have,' explains the Manager.

He goes on to explain they could have taken in one of the shows for which the hotel is famous.

'The best entertainers from New York , Hollywood , and Las Vegas perform here,' the Manager says.

'But we didn't go to any of those shows, 'complains the man again.

'Well, we have them, and you could have,' the Manager replies.

No matter what amenity the Manager mentions! the man replies, 'But we didn't use it!'

The Manager is unmoved, and eventually the man gives up and agrees to pay. He writes a cheque and gives it to the Manager.

The Manager is surprised when he looks at the cheque.

'But sir,' he says, 'this cheque is only made out for $50.00.'
